I am a full time producing artist; my work is represented by the Morgan Gallery in Kansas City, Missouri. My activities include gallery and museum exhibits, as well as international and national collections including Sprint of Kansas City, Meredith Publishing of Des Moines, Iowa, and the Menezes of Brazil. Joplin, Missouri is home for my family and studio and where I received my academic training in art with outstanding honors. I have been honored to preside as judge of art competitions and to be published in local art and entertainment publications and to be the recipient of prestigious awards throughout my career.
I apply my pigments in a consistent orthodox manner, and then set out to exploit the effects that can be achieved by texture and scumbling. Using a basic palette I create mellow harmonies of cools and warms, weaving together light and shadow, which defines the Italian use of Chiaroscuro, and with this creates the quietness of order, the calm of harmony, and the richness of spirit found in these captured moments of peace.
There is an inner thought and keen interest in observing people and places that ultimately sets the stage for my work, my paintings express something insightful and universal about those quiet moments we share. These" intimate interiors", as I call them, deal with the interior structure of the mind and soul. I allow the viewer the opportunity to step out of their complicated world and into an intimate and comforting space, a time of quiet for easing into introspection and revealing something of what we think and feel.
