Artist Statement

My primary focus is the in-between space, exploring the relationships among disciplines, patterns, color perception, and technology.  As the work evolved from paint on stretched canvas hung on a wall to an installation format using a variety of material and layouts, I continually challenge myself to cross-traditional boundaries between painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, fine art, and craft. Placing the work on the floor, ceiling, walls, and suspended within space encourages interactively by creating an in-between space to play in.  Displaying the work is collaboration between the artist and the preparer as it (the work) changes physically and visually, revealing new inquiry and experience.  Appropriated patterns from world cultures and nature are used as metaphor, then juxtaposed, combined, and layered. Color schemes are chosen to affect perception, strengthen layering, and the juxtaposition between images.  Using technology to re-interpret patterns suggests a new kind of collective memory and adds to the visual complexity while integrating the virtual with traditional.
