What is International
Business?
The Pittsburg State
University International Business major is a multi-disciplinary major,
incorporating a variety of disciplines across a variety of colleges and
departments within the Pittsburg State University community. The major is
designed to give students a core body of knowledge and basic skills necessary
to live and work successfully in the increasingly interconnected world.
Because of this, foreign language skills and understanding of differing
cultures are key components of the program. Students will also be encouraged
to enroll in internships and practice that will be developed as the major is
implemented.
What is the mission of
International Business as PSU?
Pittsburg State
University's mission statement affirms: "The university recognizes the world
as interdependent and, thus, seeks to promote a broad and interactive
international perspective." The International Business major is part of
Pittsburg State University's on-going effort to promote a broad international
perspective. At present, this effort is being furthered in a number of ways:
incorporation of international topics and materials in all courses in which
they are appropriate; faculty development to encourage and facilitate such
incorporation; student study program that promote contacts and friendship
between PSU and sister schools abroad. The International Business major will
be a strong component of these efforts. it will allow students to pursue their
international academic interests systematically and provide structured
opportunities to develop skills and contracts useful to them in their careers.
In light of the
international mission of the university, the goal of the International
Business major is to provide high-quality, in depth education in international
affairs; to cultivate foreign language and inter-cultural communications
skills; to provide opportunities for study abroad; to enhance students'
vocational skills in an increasing interconnected world; and to provide an
intellectual climate that cultivates curiosity, tolerance, and an eagerness to
learn about the world.
Who can participate in this program?
The primary focus
of this new major is any students who wish to combine their interest in
business administration with a specific focus on international business. the
sustained and rapid internationalization of economic life underscores the need
for educated and skilled students and managers to handle the complexities of
the global economy.
In addition, the
major will have a special draw for international students studying business at
PSU. For these students, especially, an International Business major will
offer the opportunity to combine their interest in studying business with
their existing knowledge of the international environment.
