Bachelor of Science in Education with a Major in Technology Education

     The curriculum leads to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in technology education.  The student needs to complete: (1) the thirty-one to thirty-four hour technology education core, (2) the engineering and design core, (3) one of three emphasis areas in production technology, communication technology, or power/energy/transportation technology, and (4) meet the teacher education and general education requirements for a teaching certificate.  A minimum of thirty hours of technology education course work needs to be completed at Pittsburg State University.  Students in technology education can take any course in the College of Technology for which they have the necessary prerequisites.  Students successfully completing this program can receive a Kansas teaching license for Technology Education (typically middle school and entry-level high school technology courses) and a license for either Production Technology or Communication Technology or Power/Energy/Transportation Technology. Technology education majors must apply to the College of Education, Room 115 Hughes Hall, for admission to teacher education during the second semester of their sophomore year.  Students transferring in as juniors must apply during their first semester on campus.  Refer to the Teacher Education section of this University Catalog for criteria for admission to teacher education and to the professional semester.

Second Teaching Option

For students who major in other teaching areas, this option can open additional teaching positions.  Students successfully completing this second teaching option can receive a teaching license for General Technology Education (typically middle school and entry-level high school technology courses).  Interested teaching candidates should contact the chairperson of the Department of Technology and Workforce Learning, or the Certification Specialist in the College of Education, Room 110 Hughes Hall, for specific requirements.
