Fitness Program
Fall 2007
The Gorilla Basic Training Fitness Program is designed to provide fitness and nutrition information to benefits-eligible employees during an 8-week period. Better overall health, lower health care costs and better employee morale are all benefits of proper fitness and nutrition.
The program is sponsored by the Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation; Human Resource Services; Prevention and Wellness Services; Sodexho Food Services; and Student Health Services.
The program will be divided into two groups – Basic Training Fitness Classes and Walking for Wellness. The fall session will begin on Monday, September 10, 2007 and will end on Friday, November 2, 2007.
Registration forms and applicable fees must be received in the Office of Human Resource Services, 204 Russ Hall, by Friday, August 31, 2007. Participants will receive additional information at the time of registration.
Basic Training Fitness Classes
Healthy Lifestyle/Fitness Classes will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning on Monday, September 10 through Friday, November 2, 2007, in Room 163, Weede Building. Two session times will be offered this fall. Participants can enroll in the 6:00 a.m. session or 12:00 noon session. Class size will limited to 25 participants each session for a total of 50 participants. Fitness Classes will last approximately 45 minutes.
Fitness activities will include low impact aerobics, body toning, resistance bands, weight training, walking and introduction to exercise equipment. Other services provided to participants include:
- Cholesterol screening – provided by the Student Health Center
- Body Composition Assessment, including height, weight, body mass index, body fat, flexibility and cardio endurance test – provided by Mike Leiker, Human Performance Lab, Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation
- Nutritional Information – nutritional educational information - provided by Sodexho Food Services
- Fitness Activities – including aerobics classes, weight training classes, walking and exercise equipment – provided by the Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation.
- Enrollment for Healthy Lifestyles – a 6-month personalized lifestyle management program – offered by Lilly Pharmaceuticals.
Registration is required, and $20 fee will be charged to participants in the Basic Training Fitness Classes to help cover costs, including the cholesterol screening. A t-shirt will be given to participants that attend at least 80% of the scheduled fitness classes. The $20 fee must be paid at the time registration.
Participants who have 100% attendance to classes are eligible to win a drawing for four (4) skybox tickets to the last home football game against Emporia State.
Walking for Wellness
Walking for Wellness will meet at 12 noon on the center of the Oval on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning on Tuesday, September 11 and ending on Thursday, November 1, 2007. The guided walking tour will last about 30 minutes.

Registration is required, but no fee will be charged for participating in Walking for Wellness. There is no limit to the number of participants.
Walking for Wellness Traveling Trophies. A traveling trophy will be awarded to the 1) individual and 2) 3-person team that walks the most time on campus. Time walked during the guided walking tour and time walked outside the guided tour on campus is counted. Teams are not required to walk together. Time walked off campus is not counted. Individuals can only participate in one category - individual or team.
The Traveling Trophies will be presented during the Pre-Game show at the last home football game against Emporia State University.
