Policies On Student Exchange Program
Policy on Student Exchange Programs
At Pittsburg State University
February 18, 2002
- Beginning with the fall 2002 semester, exchange agreements will assume that students coming to Pittsburg State University from an approved international exchange partner, and taking courses at PSU under the exchange agreement will complete no more than one academic year (undergraduate) at PSU under the tuition exchange called for by the agreement. At the conclusion of the initial year the student should either return to the home institution to complete their degree, or formally enroll at PSU as a full tuition student transferring all credit from the original home institution. Any alternative understandings must be specifically stated in the exchange agreement.
- Beginning with applications for the fall 2002 semester, students applying for exchange programs will complete a special exchange program application (to be developed by the Office of International Programs and Services) that will not include evaluation or transfer of credits from the home institution. Instead it will require a letter of approved participation by the home institution detailing the dates of participation. The acceptance by PSU is for the exchange program for the prescribed dates only. Should the student decide to stay beyond those dates of participation they would be required to complete the full application for their program of study.
- All applicants to the exchange program must meet the English language requirement for their program of study. Typically this will be a minimum score on the TOEFL or IELTS. No exchange applicant will be accepted without proof of qualified English proficiency. Referral to the Intensive English Program will not be offered as an alternative. The academic department and the Internationalization Council must approve special exceptions to this rule.
- Students currently studying at PSU on an exchange agreement before the fall 2002 semester will be held to the standards of whatever understanding was in place at the time of their first enrollment, and will not be subject to this policy during their current program of study.
