Winter Programs
Nursing in Mexico led by Dr. Barbara McClaskey
Dates: Dec 27 to January 3, 2007-2008 and Jan. 3 to 10, 2008 (2 program dates)

Course: 3 hours total: 2 in Transcultural Health & 1 in Practicum
Application requirements & deadline:
Must be a senior in Nursing or health care related major or Spanish major/minor
willing to interpret for the participants and doctors.

Description:
Students will read articles related to transcultural health care, the importance of providing culturally respectful care, and information on the area of the Mexican border. Students will observe and assist at Hospital de la Familia in Juarez. While at the hospital they will experience a variety of patient care units including Occurring (labor & delivery), Transición (admission nursery for immediate care of the newborn), Neonatologia (special care nursery), Urgencias (emergency care), Pediatria (pediatrics), and Medical Preventia (preventative health care). It is anticipated that students will work with physicians, nurses, and other students at the hospital.

Spring Break Programs
English in the British Isles led by Dr. Casie Hermansson
Dates: Spring Break 2009
Estimated Cost: $2400 for travelers under 23 and $2700 for travelers over 23
Course: 1 or 3 credit hours, English 200 or 500/700 level: Topics in English course
Application requirements & deadline:
Available to students and non-students (staff, faculty, community members, family members over 18). Prices will remained fixed for anyone enrolled prior to the end of September 2008, late enrollments may be accepted but prices may be higher for late enrollments.

Description:
The program will travel to Edinburgh, Scotland where participants will tour the Edinburgh Castle and Hadrian's wall. Participants will also visit York, Warwick, Stratford, Oxford, London, and Windsor. The costs of the trip include lifetime enrollment to EF Tours, transportation, accomodation in hotels with private bathrooms, most meals, and entrance fees for all featured museums, theater performances, tours, etc. Not included are the cost of your passport, Visa if your nationality requires one, international medical insurance, flight and baggae insurance, credit hours at PSU, tips for guides and drivers, daily lunches and some dinners, additional sightseeing done off tour and optional additional excursions.

Russian Folklore and Culture program led by Dr. Susan Knell
Dates: March 11-23, 2009
Estimated cost: $1900 (subject to change depending on airfare and value of the US dollar in Russia)
Course: 3 credit hours: Russian Folklore and Culture
Application requirements & deadline:
Anyone interested in the education and culture of Russia may apply. Deadline for participation is September 30, 2008. You do not need to know the Russian language.

Description:
Students will participate in monthly meetings to learn about Russian history and culture, customs, education system, and protocol. While in Russia students will have the opportunity to experience Russian folklore, culture, customs, and education through school and university visits, cultural tours in Vladimir, Suzdal, and Moscow, and personal experiences with children, teachers, and university students.
