About the Festival
The Midwest Trumpet Festival was founded in 2009 and brings together leading performers, educators, students, and community for an intensive two days of large and small continuing education sessions, master classes, recitals, and concerts.
Directed by Dr. Todd Hastings, professor of Trumpet at Pittsburg State University, it is held in the stunning Bicknell Family Center for the Arts, designed and constructed by world renowned theater architects.
Past festivals have featured Wayne Bergeron, Julian Kaplan, Louis McFadden, the Romm Family Trio, Jens Lindemann, Joe Burgstaller, and many more acclaimed artists.
2024 Festival Information
This year's featured guest performers: Triple Cortado!
Trumpeter Caleb Hudson, trombonist Achilles Liarmakopoulos, and pianist Ahmed Alom form this delightful trio.
Hudson, a member of the Canadian Brass, graduated from Juilliard and has been called “brilliantly stylish” by the New York Times. He has performed as an international soloist — from Carnegie Hall to a recital broadcast nationally on NPR's Performance Today — and has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
One of the most celebrated trombonists of his generation, Liarmakopoulos graduated from Yale and is the trombonist for Canadian Brass and adjunct trombone professor at CUNY. He is in demand as a soloist, performs often with Pink Martini, and has toured extensively throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia, performing and educating in many of the world’s most important venues and institutions.
Alom is a Cuban pianist, composer, and improviser who has become one of the leading young figures in piano performance in the United States. A Manhattan School of Music graduate, he has won numerous international music competitions. He’s been featured as a soloist with orchestras in Spain, Cuba, Mexico, and the U.S., performing works from Beethoven to Chopin to Gershwin.
