The following groups of students may be eligible for educational benefits:

CHAPTER 30:  ACTIVE DUTY

ELIGIBILITY

2 years active duty, 3 years active duty, or 2 years active & 4 years selected reserve.  Must have contributed $100 a month for first 12 months enlisted.

 

DELIMINATING DATE

Ten years after discharge.

 

ENTITLEMENT

36 months full time

$894 per month (2 years service) or $1101 per month (3 years service or 2 years service + 4 years reserve)

 

TUITION

Student is responsible for paying tuition and books by date listed on line.

CHAPTER 31:  VOC REHAB

ELIGIBILITY

Must have a 20% or more service-connected disability, which causes a demonstrable employment handicap.  Veterans with a 10% disability may also be found eligible if they have a serious employment handicap.

 

DELIMINATING DATE

Later of 12 years from last separation from active duty or from date service connection is established.

 

ENTITLEMENT

Generally cannot exceed 48 months

$520.74 per month plus dependents

 

TUITION

Tuition, books, and $25 for supplies are paid by the VA

CHAPTER 35:  DEPENDENTS AND SURVIVORS

ELIGIBILITY

Spouse, child, or stepchild of a veteran with permanent and total service connected disability or whose death was service connected; or who died of any cause while rated as having a permanent and total service connected disability.

 

DELIMINATING DATE

Spouse:  Later of 10 years from P&T/SC rating or death

Child:  Later of 26th birthday or 8 years from date eligibility established. (Not to exceed 31st birthday.)

 

ENTITLEMENT

45 months full-time

$881.00 per month

 

TUITION

Student is responsible for paying tuition and books by date listed on line.

CHAPTER 1606:  GUARDS AND RESERVES

ELIGIBILITY

An active reservist who has completed IAT.

 

DELIMINATING DATE

Fourteen years from date of eligibility.

 

ENTITLEMENT

36 months full-time

$317.00 per month

 

TUITION

Student is responsible for paying tuition and books by date listed on line.

CHAPTER 1607 (REAP):  GUARDS AND RESERVES

ELIGIBILITY

A member of a reserve component who serves on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001 under title 10 U S Code for a contingency operation and who serves at least 90 consecutive days or more is eligible for chapter 1607.

 

DELIMINATING DATE

None. Eligibility ends on the date of separation from the Selected Reserve or the date of separation from the Ready Reserve.

 

ENTITLEMENT

36 months full time (plus 12 months under Ch. 1606)

$440.40 for those serving 90-364 days

$660.60 for those serving 365 days - less than 2 years

$880.80 for those serving 2 years or more

 

TUITION

Student is responsible for paying tuition and books by date listed on line.

Students who have never received money from the GI Bill need:

  • A completed application
  • Ch. 30 and 1607 should bring a DD214
  • Ch. 1606 should bring a NOBE (get that from your unit)
  • A completed Request for Certification Card
  • Ch. 35 will need to know the file number of their parent or spouse.

Students who have been receiving the GI Bill from another school need:

  • A request for change of program or place of training form
  • A completed Request for Certification Card

Students who have been receiving the GI Bill from Pitt State need:
