Overview


The Department of English and Modern Languages currently offers a new undergraduate Modern Languages certificate. Students may choose from two language tracks: French or Spanish. A total of 15 course hours (five courses) is required for the new certificate. Students can add the Modern Languages certificate by calling the Registrar's Office (620-235-4200) or by adding it on their GUS site, the same way as a minor.

To earn the certificate in French, students must complete the five courses (15 hours) for one of the language tracks listed below AND meet expectations for the Intermediate-low assessment.

  • MLL-124 French Language and Culture I (3 hours)
  • MLL-128 French Language and Culture II (3 hours)
  • MLL-221 French Language and Culture III (3 hours)
  • MLL-225 French Grammar and Conversation I (3 hours)
  • MLL-328 Readings in French Literature and Civilization I (3 hours)

To earn the certificate in Spanish, students must complete the five courses (15 hours) for one of the language tracks listed below AND meet expectations for the Intermediate-low assessment.

  • MLL-154 Spanish Language and Culture I (3 hours)
  • MLL-158 Spanish Language and Culture II (3 hours)
  • MLL-251 Spanish Language and Culture III (3 hours)
  • MLL-255 Spanish Composition and Conversation I (3 hours)
  • MLL-358 Readings in Hispanic Literature and Civilization I (3 hours)

About English and Modern Languages Department


The Department of English and Modern Languages offers baccalaureate degrees and a master’s degree program. Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) programs are offered in English and in Modern Languages. A master’s program is also offered in English. The department offers minors in English, English Teaching, Creative Writing, French, Professional Writing, and Spanish.
