Overview


The Specialist in Education Degree with a Major in Advanced Studies in Leadership and emphasis in General School Administration is designed to prepare superintendents and other central office personnel. Candidates for the degree must hold a master’s degree in an educational related field in addition to the requirements for the specialist degree. The degree program is designed to permit a candidate to specialize in a specific comprehensive knowledge of administration at both elementary and secondary levels. This is accomplished through electives and individual study courses available in the program to meet individual needs. The curriculum meets the endorsement standards for District Superintendent. This program is fully accredited by the Kansas State Department of Education and CAEP.

The coursework includes 36 graduate credit hours which are offered completely online. Most candidates take two courses per semester for two years to complete the program. Through a Memorandum of Agreement with the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, PSU candidates in the Specialist in Education Degree program can apply for the online Doctorate in Educational Leadership program and apply the PSU EdS coursework toward the terminal degree. Other universities, such as Lindenwood University and St. Louis University, accept the coursework for their Educational Doctorate programs.
