The Reading and Language Arts Graduate Certificate is designed to certify that participants have specialized knowledge and skills in teaching reading/language arts. Graduates of this certificate program have the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance their teaching of reading and language arts at any grade level or in any content area. All of the courses are designed with the classroom teacher in mind. All assignments and field experiences can be completed in the candidate’s classroom at any grade level or in any content area.

This certificate program is an exceptional opportunity for teachers who already have a graduate degree but want to experience further professional development in reading and language arts. The Reading and Language Arts Certificate consists of 18 graduate credit hours that are offered completely online. These courses can apply to the Master of Science in Reading, Classroom Reading Teacher or Reading Specialist emphasis. This program is open to candidates outside of Kansas and internationally. Non-native English speaking candidates must submit a passing TOEFL score at the time of application.

Expertise in teaching reading and language arts is essential at any grade level or for any content area.  Graduates of the Reading and Language Arts Graduate Certificate program have the knowledge, skills, and strategies required to enhance their ability as a teacher. Teachers are able to work more effectively and efficiently with a variety of students. Graduates will also have a greater understanding of students who have difficulty reading textbooks, writing essays, and communicating.
All of the courses are designed with the classroom teacher in mind. All assignments and field experiences can be completed in the candidate’s classroom at any grade level or in any content area. Research is encouraged in this certificate program.
