Overview


The Master of Science in Special Education Teaching Degree is a licensure program designed for teachers who hold a valid teaching license. It is a 36 graduate credit hour, completely online program. After successful completion of the program and Praxis examinations, candidates earn both High Incidence and Low Incidence teaching licenses. Candidates in this program are eligible for a teaching waiver for either High Incidence or Low Incidence classrooms while taking coursework.

The 36-hour program is designed to be completed in two years with six graduate credit hours of coursework being completed each semester. Courses are to be taken in sequence to maximize the learning experience. Course content is presented online by utilizing Canvas, a learning management system.

Graduates of this program leave with the knowledge, skills, and strategies required to enhance their ability as a:

  • Special Education High Incidence (Adaptive) teacher
  • Special Education Low Incidence (Functional) teacher
  • EdS student in Special Education Administration (master's level preparation)
